Posted on April 2nd, 2009 in ALL Students by thefrizz

I’ve uploaded a powerpoint on the Snakehead Fish….have you heard of it?  They have actually found one in upstate New York.  View the powerpoint and tell me what your thoughts are on this “NEW SPECIES.”  Use vocabulary and content from the chapters on Ecology and Evolution to support any of your statements.

Deformed frogs is a huge topic of debate in the Science world.  Below you will find a couple of hypotheses….read them…do some research…and decide what hypohtesis you would support and please give details as to WHY!!!!!
  1. The Parasite Hypothesis: A small parasite called a TREMATODE burrows into a tadpole near where the legs will develop. This parasite gets in the way and causes legs to develop incorrectly.
  2. The Pesticide Hypothesis: A chemical called METHOPRENE is used by many farmers as a pesticide. After it has been in the sun, this pesticide changes into another chemical that may cause frog deformities.

ALL answers go on your BLOG….GOOD LUCK!!!

Ecology and Human Impact

What is their relationship?

Everyday we go about our daily lives….not even realizing how we are impacting the existing ecosystems around us….we may be destroying a species home….polluting their habitat…or even causing a population to become extinct!  I want you think about all of the ways in which you impact the environment.  List them out explicitly, and then list out detailed ways in which you could lessen your impact.  Good Luck!

So we begin the last Unit of our Living Environment adventure… I am sure you are all excited!  So with the last unit I’ve come up with a couple of different uses of technology.  The first being the use of databases, and the second the use of this BLOG.  There is more to follow just you wait and see!

What you will need to get as soon as possible…a valid email address and at least two partners from you Living Environment Class.
